Please read the following rules and regulations before submitting your abstract. You can then submit your abstract by using the link at the end of this page.

If you have already submitted an abstract for this meeting you may view your abstract or enter a new abstract by clicking on the SPEAKER ZONE and entering the Access Key which you recieved by email.

Abstracts may be submitted for the following presentation types:

- Free Paper
- Poster
- Video

Presentations will be considered on the following topics:

- Anterior segment/ External disease
- Amblyopia & vision screening / Testing
- Cataract
- Genetics
- Glaucoma
- Neuro-ophthalmology
- Orbit & Lids
- Other
- Retina / Uveitis
- Strabismus / Nystagmus


Free Papers

All Free Paper presentations will be 5 minutes in duration.

 

Posters

Please note that Poster presentations will be displayed electronically at the Barcelona Congress. Instead of presenting a graphical poster on a board, authors present their Poster as a maximum of 6 Powerpoint slides. On acceptance of a Poster Abstract for presentation in Barcelona, the author will be fully informed of the process for the submission and display of their poster.

Submission Rules

All submissions must be made online by the deadline. Once you have submitted your abstract online you will be given access to the Speaker Zone, where you must check your abstract. If you are not given access to the Speaker Zone or if your abstract is not visible in the Speaker Zone, this means that your abstract has not been submitted properly. If this happens, please contact abstracts@WCPOS.org. The organisers will not accept any responsibility for abstracts that have not been submitted properly.

Each author may submit a maximum of 2 Free Paper abstracts, 2 Poster abstracts and 2 Video abstracts.

You must ensure to indicate whether you are submitting a Free Paper, Poster or Video abstract and then indicate the relevant topic.

All abstracts will initially be reviewed, graded and accepted or rejected by the Organising Committee. The Committee reserves the right to determine whether a submission is accepted as a presentation or a poster. The decision of the Committee is final.

If a paper or poster is accepted for presentation, the first author must undertake to present it. The presenter must be a registered delegate at the congress and pay all applicable fees.

Submitted abstracts must include the following information:
All abstracts must be in English and follow the structured format below

TITLE (20 words max)
PURPOSE (50 words max)
SETTING (20 words max)
METHODS (100 words max)
RESULTS (100 words max)
CONCLUSIONS (50 words max)
FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE (YES/NO)

The summary of results presented must be given in sufficient detail to support the conclusions. The Organising Committee will only accept abstracts with final results or conclusions.

References and credits cannot be included as part of an abstract.

Formulae should, in general, be avoided.

When using abbreviations or acronyms for the first time, care should be taken to spell them out in full with the abbreviation in parentheses after the full word/s the first time it appears in the text. The abbreviation should be used alone thereafter.

Please indicate whether the presenting author or any co-author have a financial interest in the subject matter or receive money from any mentioned company.

Videos

  • The abstract submission deadline is 15th April 2009 and the video submission deadline is 31st May 2009.
  • Both an abstract form and a videotape must be submitted in order for an entry to be considered by the organisation committee.
  • The total duration of the video, including title and credits, must not exceed 8 minutes.
  • The video must include a narration, music alone will not be accepted.
  • The title and narration of the video must be in English.
  • Only videos in VHS, SVHS and mini DV PAL format will be accepted for the Video Competiton. DVDs in PAL format will also be accepted.
    Under no circumstances will CD-ROMS and videotapes in NTSC format be accepted.
  • Videos which promote a company name or logo, acknowledge sponsorship or promote commercial products, will not be accepted.
  • Generic names should be used instead of product names, where possible.
  • Instruments can be shown briefly, but not exceeding 10 seconds.
  • As your video will not be returned, please do not send the master copy.
  • Send only 1 copy of your video and make sure it is labelled.
